Six of the fighting games that will be a part of the EVO 2014 tournament have been confirmed, giving fans as well as competitors a preview of what is to come in one of the biggest video game competitions of the year.

Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Killer Instinct, Injustice: Gods Among Us, King of Fighters XIII, and BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma were confirmed by SRK for EVO 2014, which will be held in Las Vegas from July 11 through July 13. These games represent some of the best fighting games in recent memory as well as some new titles, such as Killer Instinct, that were only released very recently. Other games such as Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Ultra Street Fighter IV are staples of fighting game tournaments worldwide.

While these games are all solid choices for the EVO 2014 lineup, one glaring omission remains: Super Smash Bros. Melee. Despite over 130,000 people watching the livestream of last year's finals for the Gamecube game, it's unclear if Nintendo will allow the game to be a part of the tournament.

"While we are engaged in preliminary discussions with Evo about their upcoming event in July, the potential role of any Nintendo software at this event is undetermined at this time," Nintendo said in a statement, SRK reported.

It would be an odd move for Nintendo to continue to withhold Super Smash Bros. Melee from being a part of EVO, especially considering the success of last year's livestream for that portion of the tournament. Perhaps Nintendo is hoping that the newest entry to the series will be released before the tournament and is reluctant to confirm anything until the game is released. Another potential factor could be that Nintendo is holding out on EVO officials due to the popularity the game has with fighting game enthusiasts so that the company can receive more publicity and advertisements at the event.
