Launching a magazine is difficult, but with some star power in the form of supermodel Gisele Bündchen, it has to be easier to succeed.
Net-a-Porter, the online luxury fashion shop launched in 2000, has made the jump from digital to print with its new venture, Porter. The 33-year-old is minimally styled, with a messy updo and a red sweater, on the cover. Her freckles are also on display.
The $300 million woman, as the magazine calls her, is just one of many featured in an issue dedicated to celebrating "incredible women." Uma Thurman, Karlie Kloss and Penélope Cruz are examples of others.
The cover was shot by Dutch photographers Inez & Vinoodh.
"They delivered Gisele way beyond my expectation... the word 'feel' on that coverline is so important," said editor-in-chief Lucy Yeomans to The Telegraph.
The English magazine, which will go on sale in many countries, will used American English. It will also aim to show pictures for the post-Instagram generation. Expect more real women looking real.
This isn't the digital shop's first foray into media. It runs a much beloved online magazine, The Edit, which has worked with Miranda Kerr, Kate Bosworth and Cindy Crawford, according to E! News. While The Edit is free, Porter will be $48 a year for six issues.
The glossy was founded by Natalie Massenet, who said that her company was "also a media group and we love print."
Porter, which is funded through its Internet shop, may give Vogue a run for its money. It has the talent and vision to do so. The 284-page magazine is displayed in Grand Central Station in New York as well as Victoria Station in London because the reader is the "woman on the move" who makes more than £170,000 a year, according to a presentation given Thursday.
The magazine is on sale as of today.
