The opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia will begin on Feb. 7, starting at 20:14 local time and at 7:30 p.m. EST on NBC.

The ceremonies will take place at the Fisht Olympic Stadium, a gorgeous venue that offers a clear view of the mountain peaks in the north and the sea in the south, reports Hollywood Life.

NBC's "Today" show hosts Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira will emcee the event for American viewers while Bob Costas will anchor the ceremony from the International Broadcast Center.

Although the actual performers and stunts have been kept under tight wraps, The Telegraph reports that 15 buildings, six trains, and six bridges will be built on the stage of the stadium for the event. There will also be a parade in which around 40,000 spectators will welcome a record-breaking 87 nations into the Fisht Olympic Stadium in the Olympic Park.

Short track speed skater John Eley says being chosen to carry the flag for Great Britain in Friday's opening ceremony will be the proudest moment of his career. "It will be the proudest moment for me to lead out one of our strongest teams and hopefully it won't be the only highlight of my two weeks of competition. To be the first man through the doors at the opening ceremony with the flag will be a fantastic feeling," said the 29-year-old athlete according to Daily Mail.

While Russian President Vladimir Putin hoped to see dozens of world leaders at the opening ceremony, the Winter Olympics is not regarded as a "must attend" event, and many have been turned off by Russia's controverisal anti-gay laws. Therefore there will be a noticeable absence from a handful of leaders, including President Barack Obama, Prime Minister David Cameron and the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.

However, other leaders like China's President Xi Jinping, Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon are expected to attend, reports The Guardian.

NBC will be streaming everything but the Opening Ceremonies on their website. That means you'll need to be crafty if you want to watch it online. One way livestreams can be found is by using a VPN (virtual private network) service online.
