Selena Gomez checked herself into rehab for a two-week stint in January.
"Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse," a rep said to PEOPLE.
RadarOnline was the first to report that the 21-year-old actress and singer had been admitted to Dawn at the Meadows, an Arizona facility for "emerging adults 18-26", on Jan. 5. Radar goes on to say that Gomez "had been leading a life very different from the carefully created squeaky-clean public person: one troubled by drug and alcohol abuse."
The site states that she's been "experimenting with marijuana and prescription drugs, including Xanax and Ambien."
Sources said that her parents encouraged her to go to rehab because she was partying too hard, and others said they wouldn't know if to blame Justin Bieber, but that among his friends, "smoking was commonplace."
He has recently faced trouble with the law, when he was pulled over in Miami Beach driving under the influence.
The two were last spotted together in early January riding Segways and then in a photo on Jan. 4 on Instagram with the caption, "Love the way you look at me." Gomez's social media was not updated again until Jan. 20, when she posted a photo from the Sundance Festival.
Selena Gomez announced in December that she was canceling the Australian leg of her Stars Dance tour stating that, "It has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be."
After the announcement, it was reported that the real reason she canceled the tour was because she had lupus.
