Houston Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin has been in the zone for the past three games, making his best run since his surge in November.
In an interview with The Houston Chronicle's Ultimate Rockets on Tuesday, Lin credited his newfound confidence to a natural, free-flowing approach in the game, as he felt more relaxed while doing his job effectively off the bench.
After going up and down for the past two months, Lin finally delivered a more consistent performance over the last three games as he averaged at least 17.0 points and 8.3 assists per game in a bench role for the Rockets.
The 25-year-old Lin said his free-minded approach has helped him a lot, keeping him focused in the game while executing every play without worrying too much about other details.
"Trying to be very free mentally, just kind of go out there and not really worrying too much about all the little things," Lin told the Ultimate Rocket on Tuesday regarding his mental approach to the game. "Just trying to go out there and play as natural and free-minded as I possibly can."
The former Harvard hot shot has recently achieved his first career triple-double game after dropping 15 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in 29 minutes of action in the Rockets' 106-92 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Toyota Center Saturday.
Lin called his triple-double feat a humbling accomplishment after all he went through just to fulfill his dream of playing in the NBA. Meanwhile, his superstar teammate James Harden lauded his exploits on the court, calling it very special because bench players don't usually have a shot at pulling off a triple-double due to limited playing time.
Lin, on the other hand, said that he has already overcome his tendency of being afraid to commit mistakes, which appeared to be the key to his strong play as of late.
"When I'm comfortable, when I'm playing confident, I'm not really worrying about anything, mistakes or anything," Lin said. "I'm a high-risk, high-reward type of guy at times. I'm going to have those mistakes. When I'm not worrying about them in due time, things will turn around."
