The New York Knicks have a good chance of advancing to the playoffs this season despite their well-publicized struggles.

In their bid to improve their odds of making an impact later in the season, reports indicated on Tuesday that the Knicks could pursue a point guard before the Feb. 20 trade deadline.

Ian Begley of ESPN New York insisted that the Knicks should pursue a top-tier point guard if they want to have at least a chance of making an impact in the playoffs.

Raymond Felton and Pablo Prigioni have been nothing but disappointments in their past few games, while Beno Udrih has been inactive after allegedly asking for a trade. Felton and Prigioni combined for just six points and eight assists in their 101-98 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday.

Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo remains on top of the wish list of the Knicks as previous reports suggested that they have the strongest interest in acquiring the All-Star. However, the Rondo-to-Knicks deal appears to be a long shot at this point unless Rondo forces a trade to New York.

The Knicks could also revisit talks with the Toronto Raptors about a possible deal involving Kyle Lowry. The Raptors are still mum on whether or not they are trading the veteran point guard before the deadline. It remains to be seen as well whether the Knicks will give into the demand of the Raptors for a future first-round pick in any deal involving Lowry.

Aside from Rondo and Lowry, the Knicks could also target other point guards, who are expected to be on the trading block in the coming weeks like Avery Bradley of the Boston Celtics, Andre Miller of the Denver Nuggets, and Jameer Nelson of the Orlando Magic.

Recent reports also indicated that Kyrie Irving could consider leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Knicks are expected to express strong interest. ESPN New York noted though that the Cavs have no plan to trade their franchise player at this point.

"Irving has reportedly expressed frustration with his situation in Cleveland. It's hard to see the Cavs moving him in a trade at this point. And if they did make him available, they may be able to get better offers elsewhere than anything the Knicks could produce," ESPN New York reported.
