Juan Manuel Marquez recently revealed that he is open to facing the winner of the rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley, but he also wants to fight in May to keep himself in perfect shape.

Marquez did not mention names of possible opponents for his planned May bout, but a BoxingScene report indicated that the Mexican boxing icon could end up facing Shawn Porter in his next fight.

Marquez, 40, previously expressed desire to win a fifth title in five different divisions, and he could fulfill that goal by going up against Porter, who is the reigning International Boxing Federation welterweight champion.

Porter, who won the IBF title belt via a unanimous decision win over Devon Alexander in December last year, said that he is also open to facing Marquez in a title fight.

The 26-year-old American insisted that he will not hesitate to take the fight, while also expressing confidence about his chances against the Mexican boxing icon.

"I was surprised to hear that.  That is a fight I would take in a heartbeat.  I would love to fight him.  I think I have what it takes to beat him. Youth is on my side.  I don't think it is just athleticism though. We will beat him with our brains as well," Porter said.

However, one possible hurdle for the proposed title fight could be the promotional dispute between Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank Promotions. Porter is under GBP, while Marquez's previous fight was handled by Top Rank although he is officially under Zanfer Promotions.

In the event the fight with Marquez will not be finalized, Porter added that he will challenge WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana to a title-unification bout.

Maidana is tied up to a rematch with Adrien Broner anytime this year, but Porter is still hoping that he will get a shot against the Argentine champion.

"I have a bitter taste.  I really wanted that Maidana fight but I honestly think that Broner can make the adjustment. This is boxing though.  Anything can happen so we will see," Porter said.

Marquez, on the other hand, will likely be forced to settle for a less-heralded fighter, while waiting for the rematch against Pacquiao or Bradley.

The four-division champion was challenged by WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov, but Marquez expressed no interest in facing the Russian champion.
