Several designers may be opting not to show at Lincoln Center and the weather is hardly cooperative, but there is plenty to look forward to this season.
1. Rebecca Minkoff Partners with Keek
Rebecca Minkoff is always ahead of the game when it comes to social media, and this week she'll be sharing behind-the-scenes look at how she prepares for NYFW, according to Fashionista. She'll use the video-sharing platform to upload multiple videos per day up until the day of the presentation, Friday. Get her thoughts and learn just how her team puts on a show.
2. Alexander Wang in Brooklyn
Alexander Wang is highly in demand. So much so, that he can hold his show in Brooklyn and be praised as a pioneer instead of inducing major eye roll. "We found this incredible space, and it corresponds very well to this season's creative concept," said Wang to Women's Wear Daily. The show will be held on Feb. 8, and you can expect the designer to go all out, or at the very least, you can count on his signature jig down the runway.
3. New to New York
Discovering favorites is always exciting, and this year's new crop of designers won't soon be forgotten. Watch out for designers Lie Sang Bong, who has been described as the "Korean McQueen," contemporary label Raoul and Australian Rebecca Vallance.
4. Diversity
Late last year, IMG announced a diversity initiative that would include models regardless of shape, size or color. And it seems they are being true to their word. Plus-size models will be walking the runways, said Page Six. "IMG is the first to include plus-size models in their show package along with models like Gisele," according to a fashion insider. There is also a significant number of models of color included.
5. A Diane von Furstenberg Anniversary
Diane von Furstenberg continues celebrating 40 years of the wrap dress. That means a live performance by St. Vincent at Spring Studios, which will also be streamed live, said the Los Angeles Times. Tune in at 5 p.m. EST at DVF.com and you can join in on the fun, too.
