Colin Kaepernick failed to lead the San Francisco 49ers to their second straight Super Bowl appearance this year.

Understandably, the popular quarterback is disappointed with their performance this season, but it also appears that Kaepernick is still reeling from a painful defeat last season.

In an interview with Bill Simmons, Kaepernick admitted that he can still feel the pain he felt when the 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens, 34-31, at Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans.

Kaepernick pointed out that the 49ers could have beaten the Ravens had San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh let them play through during a crucial posession late in the fourth quarter. However, Kaepernick said that their momentum was snapped when Harbaugh called a timeout.

The 26-year-old quarterback said that he could have attempted a run for a potential game-winning touchdown, but he was stopped in his tracks when his coach called for a break.

Harbaugh drew a different play after the timeout, but the 49ers failed to capitalize as Kaepernick committed two costly passing errors, including his final throw that was tipped by the Ravens' defense, which ended Kaepernick's and the 49ers' title hopes last season.

"There was one play we had that we had called a timeout on that I think would have walked in, and the play clock was running down so we called a timeout," Kaepernick said. "It would have been close, but I think we might have been able to get that play off."

Kaepernick, who posted a career-best 3,197 yards passing with 21 touchdowns in his third season, had a chance to lead the 49ers to their second-straight trip to the Super Bowl, but the Seattle Seahawks proved to be too much for them during the NFC Championship two weeks ago.

When asked to give his thoughts on the upcoming Super Bowl Sunday showdown between their rival Seahawks and the Denver Broncos, the former Nevada standout predicted a victory for the Broncos.

"They [Broncos] have the receivers to match up really well with Seattle's defensive backs, and they'll have opportunities to make some big plays," Kaepernick said. "From what I've seen of Denver, the depth they have at receiver and the playmakers they have on offense are better than some of the defensive players in the Seahawks' nickel defense."
