Manny Pacquiao has to abandon his clean-cut, good guy image and unleash his brutal, merciless self for him to have a shot at beating the undefeated Timothy Bradley in their WBO Welterweight Championship rematch on April 12 at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nev, according to sports analyst and boxing aficionado Ed Tolentino.
Pacquiao has to shed his "gentlemanly ways" in his second fight with Bradley for him to secure a victory, which was controversially stolen by Bradley two years ago, Tolentino recently wrote.
Tolentino, who has been following Pacquiao's career ever since he erupted in the local boxing scene in the Philippines, said the Pacman had several chances to drop Bradley in the first fight, but decided to lay low—a decision that dealt him his first of his two losses in 2012; the other was a sixth-round TKO loss against Juan Manuel Marquez.
"There were occasions in the first fight, when he nearly had Bradley on the verge of a knockdown," the analyst said recently on ANC's "Hardball." "But he went on cruise control in offense."
"I think he has learned from now on, that if you want to be a gentleman in the sport, you can do that after the fight," he said. "But in the ring, you can not be complacent, you have to go full throttle on offense."
When asked what will happen to Pacquiao if he receives another knockout beating at the hands of Bradley, Tolentino said it would be the end of Pacman's glorious boxing career.
"Definitely he can not afford another knockout defeat. That will be the end of the career of Manny Pacquiao if he ends up losing by knockout again," Tolentino said.
Pacquiao and Bradley agreed to meet again for the second time after their initial encounter ended in controversy roughly two years ago.
Bradley has been on a hot streak as he defeated Russian slugger Ruslan Provodnikov in the 2012 Fight of the Year winner and edged Marquez via split decision in October.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, had a successful return in the ring after dismantling Brandon Rios in their 12-round slugfest in November at the Venetian Macau in Macao, China.
