Square Enix is debunking a rumor that both Final Fantasy 15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014, claiming that the source of the leak was using placeholder dates instead of confirmed release dates.

Gamespot is reporting that Square Enix distributed an European release date calendar to select parties that had both games listed for a 2014 release date. When this information began to spread across the internet, Square Enix then sent Gamespot a statement clarifying that neither game has been confirmed for 2014 and that these dates were not a reflection of when the company actually plans to have the games released:

"We're aware an internal document has been in circulation listing release dates for select Square Enix titles. This information contained in this document is inaccurate and features placeholder timing...Specifically, no announcement has been made to date for Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV--their projected release window remains to be advised."

It would have shocking to find out that Square Enix had both of these titles scheduled for a 2014 release date considering how little is known about the titles. For example, Final Fantasy 15 started out life as Final Fantasy Versus 13 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. After several years of delays, the game eventually emerged at E3 2013 as Final Fantasy 15 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and though Square Enix has had years to develop the game it may be some time before fans can get a hold of it.

As for Kingdom Hearts 3, though the game has been rumored to be in development ever since Kingdom Hearts 2 was released on the PlayStation 2, the game was officially confirmed at E3 2013. So far Square Enix has remained quiet about the game and only the E3 trailer and a minute long video of gameplay footage has been released to the public. Needless to say, the game will most likely not be ready in 2014.
This may upset some fans that have waited years for these games to emerge, but in the meantime Square Enix has several other games that users can check out. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 will be released on Feb. 11 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is already available on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, and Square Enix is offering PlayStation 3 owners a free upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version of the game when it is released later in 2014.
