The St. Louis Rams are reportedly planning to make their return to Hollywood after franchise owner Stan Kroenke bought a 60-acre piece of land, which could be the site of the team's new stadium.

ESPN reported Kroenke's purchase of the track of land in Inglewood, Calif., and the owner has already informed NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about the acquisition.

"Our policy is they do have to keep us informed of any developments or anything that is going on in the Los Angeles market," Goodell told ESPN. "Stan is a very large developer on a global basis. He has land throughout the country and throughout the world. He has kept us informed of it. We're aware of it.

"There are no plans to my knowledge of a stadium development. Anything that would require any kind of stadium development requires multiple votes of the membership," he added.

According to reports, Kroenke's group has reportedly sent a message to the office of the NFL commissioner, detailing their purchase and their future plans on the 60 acres.

"While we can confirm media reports that we recently purchased land in Inglewood, as a private company we don't typically discuss our plans for commercial or residential investments," the statement said. "We have yet to decide what we are going to do with the property but we will look at all options, as we do with all our properties."

The Rams played their home games in Los Angeles from 1946 to 1994 before the football franchise was relocated to St. Louis in 1995. Besides their Super Bowl title in 1999, the Rams haven't performed well on the field and at the ticket gates for the past several years, prompting speculation the team could make a return to Los Angeles.

However, the NFL commissioner quickly dismissed reports Kroenke and his group are planning to build a stadium on the piece of land, stressing football fans should not overreact to it.

"Stan is a very successful developer," Goodell said. "He has billions of dollars of projects that are going on around the country of real estate development."

"I think instead of overreacting we should make sure we do what's necessary to continue to support the team locally, which the fans have done in St. Louis, and make sure we can do whatever we can to make sure that team is successful in the St. Louis market," the commissioner added.
