Tim Tebow has no NFL contract and is nowhere near getting one any time soon, but the former quarterback will have a share of the spotlight on Super Bowl XLVIII this Sunday.
Tebow will make an appearance on televisions nationwide as he stars in two T-Mobile ads that poke fun at his failure to get an NFL contract this season. In the eye-catching commercials, the 26-year-old details how not being under contract worked wonders for him.
"Everyone thinks I want a contract, but without one, I've done so much this year," Tebow says in one of the spots.
In the two 30-second commercials (see below), not having an NFL contract allows Tebow to become a rock star, a bull rider and an obstetrician. He is also seen saving puppies as a firefighter, riding a bull, delivering a baby, and throwing a football on the moon.
Talking about his commercials, the former Denver Broncos and New York Jets quarterback said that shooting the ads allowed him to get out of his comfort zone and display his rarely seen humerous side.
In real life, Tebow has been relatively busy despite having no football contract. The former Heisman Trophy winner, who failed to secure a contract with the New England Patriots earlier in the season, worked as an ESPN College GameDay analyst during the BCS Championship and recently hosted "Good Morning America."
In an interview with USA Today, Tebow said that he will continue working hard in the hopes of convincing an NFL team to sign him next season.
"I'm still working hard every single day to improve as a quarterback and I'm looking forward to whatever opportunities are there," Tebow said.
Tebow's latest T-Mobile commercial is the latest promotional campaign of the mobile carrier that is related to their decision to get rid of contracts. It is also related to their recent offer to subscribers to end their contracts with rival carriers while T-Mobile shoulders the early termination fees.
T-Mobile Chief Marketing Officer Mike Sievert said that there is no better way to make their new offer work than by taking advantage of the Super Bowl on Sunday, which is expected to draw millions.
"We've seen such a huge response from our Contract Freedom launch that we wanted to showcase the momentum of our latest Un-carrier move on a much grander stage," Sievert told CNET.
