Will it or won't it? It seems that nobody knows just exactly what's going on with the Android 4.2.2 update for the Samsung Galaxy S3. Latinos Post is here to set the record straight on when exactly the firmware could land.

Quick disclaimer: Samsung has not officially commented on the matter, meaning most of the information about the update is from insiders, leaks, and other unofficial channels. Exercise skepticism over enthusiasm.

The Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 update was initially rumored to roll out sometime in June. Website SamMobile had leaked a test build, and everything looked fine. Suddenly, the update was delayed due to issues with porting over the new Galaxy S4 TouchWiz interface. The new release time frame then shifted toJuly or August.

But alas, the technosphere could not keep quiet. Rumblings began trickling down that Samsung might withhold the update until November in order to boost Galaxy S4 sales. Despite having a record quarter of profits, it seems that investors aren't happy enough, generally agreeing that the Galaxy S4 is losing momentum. This led some to believe that Samsung might not want customers to be able to choose between a cheaper (yet still incredibly top-of-the-line) Galaxy S3 with Android 4.2.2 and a more expensive Galaxy S4 with Android 4.2.2. Instead, Samsung could hold off until the Galaxy S4 is updated to Android 4.3 or Android 5.0 (which is expected to release in October/November) before bumping older handsets up to newer firmwares. Essentially, Samsung might want to make it clear that if you want the latest and greatest, you'll have to shell out for a Galaxy S4.

All in all, the jury is still out on the matter, and Galaxy S3 owners should resign themselves to a July-November mindset. There is a leaked build some can play around with, but until we hear from Samsung, be wary of reports that promise you a date - even Samsung seems to be confused on this one.
