Whether you like American football or not, there’s one thing that people all across the globe can appreciate, and that’s the highly anticipated, high-budget commercials that debut every year during the big game.

According to Wallethub.com, 169 million people are expected to watch the Super Bowl which will be broadcast in 180 countries and in over 30 languages. In effect, there’s no surprise why companies are willing to dish out more than $4 million for a 30-second advertising slot. However, just because a company shells out big bucks for a slot does not guarantee that their ad will be effective.

Here’s a list of foreign brand companies whose Super Bowl commercials did not leave a good impression.

In 2009, Hyundai aired this Super Bowl commercial in which angry executives are seen and heard screaming the word “Hyundai,” leaving a less than enjoyable marker for the brand.

Kia Motors Corporation, which is headquartered in Seoul and is South Korea's second-largest automobile manufacturer, will debut this car ad during Super Bowl XLVIII. In the ad, a couple runs into Morpheus from “The Matrix” at a valet stand. He then presents them with two different sets of keys and tells them that they should choose wisely, because they'll never look at luxury the same again. Despite the ad's creativity, "The Matrix" theme seems out of date.

In 2010, Kia released this commercial featuring children puppets going to a wild ride. It was the first time that Kia Motors America, the U.S. unit of South Korea's Kia Motors Corp., brought a Super Bowl ad. In Kia's spot, Muno, a pink Nickelodeon puppet with one eye, and aother children's characters navigate through the U.S. in a 2011 Sorento crossover, and end up partying, leaving a bad impression on children. The 60-second commercial, which was created by David & Goliath, was a costly gamble for the company.

For the first time, Jaguar will advertise at the 2014 Super Bowl, premiering a slot that takes a stab at Americans. British actors Ben Kingsley, Tom Hiddleston and Mark Strong, who are known for playing bad-guy movie roles, star in the 60-second spot which is scheduled to air during the game’s fourth quarter, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Although this Super Bowl ad spotlights the utopic beaches in the Bahamas, it falls short of originality and excitement. "Behold, sand so soft every step is like a stroll amongst the clouds," the narrator says in the 2013 spot. "Behold, water so blue it seems to merge with the sky above."
