The Indiana Pacers are having another great season, but the current league-leading team could make moves before the trade deadline to improve their title chances this season.
The Pacers, who are 35-9 this season, look poised to finally get over the hump and defeat defending champions the Miami Heat in a playoff series this season, but analysts believe that they are still one big move away from doing so.
Fox Sports reports that the Pacers could be in the mix for Kyle Lowry, who is expected to draw lots of interest before the deadline despite previous reports suggesting that the Raptors could keep him beyond the deadline.
Sources said that the Raptors could hold on to the veteran point guard as they continue to rack up wins, but keeping him for the remainder of the season could backfire next summer since they could lose him for nothing via free agency.
"The Pacers may be among the teams who will make a play for Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry at the Feb. 20 trade deadline, according to several reports. But the more the Raptors win, the more it looks as if they will hang on to Lowry. It's an interesting situation, because Lowry is a free agent at season's end," Fox Sports noted.
Acquiring Lowry will definitely be a huge boost to the already-loaded roster of the Pacers, but it remains to be seen whether or not they are willing to give up assets in order to upgrade their point guard spot.
Danny Granger, who averaged 8.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 19 games this season, is reportedly drawing interest from other teams, and reports indicate that the Pacers are listening to offers for their nine-year veteran.
The 30-year-old former All-Star could be offered by the Pacers in a possible deal for Lowry, but the Raptors could turn down the deal since they already have DeMar Derozan and Terrence Ross for their starting shooting guard and small forward spot.
The Raptors might be interested in acquiring a point guard in any deal for the 27-year-old point guard, creating speculations that the Pacers could consider offering George Hill and future picks in a trade for Lowry, who is averaging 16.4 points and 7.5 assists per game this season.
