It was just yesterday that we learned the hyped Motorola Moto X smartphone could hitting retail stores' shelves as early as Aug. 23, and now we have some more juicy details about the phone, mainly regarding its customizable features.

Motorola is touting the Moto X as the first phone you can truly customize. The smartphone manufacturer isn't talking about hardware or specs, but is mostly referring to aesthetics, according to Tyler Wimberly, the founder of Android and Me and notorious leakster about the Moto X.

"People keep asking for Moto X leaks, so here is another tidbit. Moto X features a curved design engineered from ground up for personalization. As I reported awhile back, users will be able to pick the material for the backplate," Wimberly wrote on Google Plus.

"Plastic is the default material, but wood is also an option that should be available at launch. Other materials like metals, ceramics, and fabrics should become available after the August 23rd launch. AT&T has some kind of 'exclusive' thing for the Moto X launch, but I don't know if it's an exclusive material/color or something else completely different."

The move to allow customers to customize the look and feel of their smartphone should prove popular, especially in an Android smartphone market full of various models, sizes, and colors. The Moto X will also be the first smartphone to be assembled in the United States, (although parts may come from overseas) and a large part of that decision might have to do with Motorola wanting to ship out customized phones to its customers in the United States as quickly as possible instead of making them wait for an order from China to fly in.

The Moto X is rumored to come with a 720p display, a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, a 10-megapixel "Clear Pixel" camera, a 2-megapixel front camera, and the latest version of Android at the time of its release. The phone is also equipped with a series of sensors that will allow it adjust its functionality based on how it's being used.
