Vincent announced to the world that he's alive on the latest episode of "Beauty and the Beast."
In "Ancestors," Vincent (Jay Ryan) goes on the daytime talk show "The Talk." The hosts ask him how a guy like him could wander around on the streets and not be noticed, and they also tease him about his personal life. Tori (Amber Skye Noyes) does not look happy when he talks about keeping his options open.
Meanwhile, Cat (Kirstin Kreuk) is having trouble getting past Vincent, especially since there are posters of his face everywhere.
J.T. (Austin Basis) is beaten up when people come looking for the shackle that was around the skeleton that was found in the curio shop. It turns out that Vincent was having him do research on the skeleton to find out his beastly ancestors. J.T. discovers that it's 10,000 years old, and holds some of the same DNA Vincent possess.
Cat is asked to go undercover to track the people who beat up J.T., but Vincent and Tori are doing the same thing. Cat sees that Vincent has tracked the people that Cat is following. Once Cat is at the meeting of the people she's investigating, they pause to check her for a wire. Cat jumps into the Hudson River to short the wire, and tells them she resisted because she doesn't like being threatened.
Cat is then told that she is to go to the Russian Embassy and steal a gem, which is the prize the thugs are looking for.
Cat goes undercover as a caterer at a party at the embassy. Once there, she realizes that Vincent is also at the same place, and they're working the same case. Vincent is there to seduce the wife of the Russian consul and gain access to the precious gem.
Vincent and Cat fight over the gem, but Vincent ultimately captures it.
Later, Agent Landon (Elisabeth Rohm) gives Cat information that connects her family and the gem back to 1836, when Rebecca Reynolds, an ancestor on her father's side, was helping Scotland Yard.
The gem they found fits perfectly in the collar of the shackle that was around the skeleton Tori's dad possessed, meaning someone was using it to control the beast. J.T. also reminds Vincent that he and Tori might be the last two beasts on earth, and that they share a primal connection that should be investigated.
Cat thanks Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy) for trusting her with the mission, and the two share a kiss.
On the next episode, "Held Hostage," "Cat, Tori and Tess become hostages when some criminals want to steal a rare necklace that Tori possesses. Although Vincent is their only hope, helping them could reveal his true identity to the police."
Executive producers Brad Kern and Jennifer Levin spoke to TVLine about the skeletal mystery and the future for Vincent and Cat.
The mystery of the skeleton will be the main focus of a number of episodes.
"We're trying to explore who Vincent is as a beast and how he's connected to a deeper mythology," Kern said. "We're going to discover that Muirfield was a Chinese box behind a Chinese box behind a Chinese box... a front corporation" for a whole other entity that wanted to re-engineer an extinct species.
Cat and Gabe's relationship will also continue to evolve in coming episodes. "Like Vincent having to explore his beast side, Cat has to explore this 'Mr. Right' who understands what she's gone through, because he used to be a beast," Kern said. "She'd be stupid not to, especially after what a jerk Vincent was to her."
Tori will also continue her relationship with Vincent, but it will be short-lived. "As he explores the season-long question of 'Who am I?,' he's got a woman who can connect to him in a way that Cat never can," Kern said. However, Tori will not have a season-long arc.
Levin added that the episode airing on Feb. 10 will have a romantic Valentine's Day theme for the two principal characters.
"[EP] Sherri [Cooper] and I wrote it and we went for the romance - hyper-aware of the fact that it would be airing on Valentine's week," Levin said.
While Vincent and Cat may see sparks fly again, Kern said it's going to take Vincent "a while to earn back Cat's trust."
"If he's going to find the balance between man and beast, between heart and soul - which he must do if he is to be a better man for Cat - he must take this journey," he continued. "It's a painful path, but we ask the audience to have faith in us and to be with us on the season's story, so that they can be rewarded with a series of episodes that bring them back together again in a much more fulfilling and foundational way."
He also teased, "The winter finale promises to give the fans what they've been waiting for, as well as a shocking VinCat cliffhanger."
"Held Hostage" airs Monday, Jan. 27 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
