The Houston Rockets and the Boston Celtics nearly pulled off a trade last month involving Omer Asik before talks went south, but the two teams are still willing to sit down once again before the trade deadline.
Recent reports indicated that the Rockets are still planning to move Asik before next month's deadline despite a previous announcement from team executives that they will likely keep the disgruntled center, who requested a trade after the Rockets acquired superstar center Dwight Howard.

Veteran NBA analysts Sam Smith reported that Celtics are also planning to make big moves in the coming weeks, and acquiring Asik could be one of their possible moves.
Sources said that if the Celtics decide not to trade All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo, they will likely move Jeff Green to the Rockets in exchange for Asik and build their team around the defensive-minded center and Rondo.
"More executives think the Celtics want to trade Jeff Green. They're probably trying to persuade someone to take Gerald Wallace along with Green, though many figure they'll eventually move Green. A nice exchange could be for Omer Asik, giving the Celtics a point guard/defensive center core to move forward with along with Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk," Smith noted.
Asik, who has not played since Dec. 2, is only averaging 4.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season due to limited playing time, but the fourth-year center showed last season what he is capable of given enough playing time.
In his first season as a starter after serving as a backup center in his first two years in the league, Asik averaged 10.1 points and 11.7 rebounds per game to go along with 1.1 blocks last season.
Green, on the other hand, could be a perfect frontcourt partner to Howard, given his ability to shoot three pointers and his decent perimeter game. The 27-year-old forward is having a productive season, averaging 16.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
Aside from the possible Asik-for-Green trade, previous reports also suggested that the Rockets will look to pull off a trade for Rondo to form a potent trio with Howard and James Harden.
Sources said that Boston could agree to trade Rondo for Asik, Jeremy Lin, and a future first-round pick.
