Motorola's Moto X phone is currently generating quite the buzz in the technosphere, but that doesn't mean owners of older Motorola handsets have been forgotten. In fact, Verizon will be rolling out a new update for the Droid RAZR Maxx and Droid RAZR Maxx HD incredibly soon.

First things first: it won't be Android 4.2.2. Although rumor has it the upgrade will be coming soon, this firmware will only contain some simple tweaks and fixes. Verizon states that software versions 9.20.1.XT926.Verizon.en.US and 9.18.79.XT926.Verizon.en.US will be rolling out soon for the two handsets, so it may not have been pushed out over the air yet. Expect the firmwares to roll out in batches once they do, so not everybody will get it at the same time.

The minor update brings new versions of the apps Backup Assistant contacts and SMARTACTIONS while fixing some GPS and Bluetooth issues. Battery life and data monitoring have also been approved, according to the official Verizon changelog.

If it doesn't sound like much, it's because it isn't. Most Droid RAZR Maxx and Droid RAZR Maxx HD users are waiting for one thing: Android 4.2.2. While there is no official word on when the update might arrive, there is some encouraging news.

It wasn't too long ago that some Motorola customers began receiving invitations for a soak test. For those who don't know what a soak test is, the procedure is when Motorola sends out an update before its release to some customers asking for feedback. Updates usually go live soon after the soak test is completed, and the invites led many to believe it could be an indication that Android 4.2.2 is around the corner. It's been over a week since the soak test invites were sent, and while the soak test could have been for the minor update mentioned above, there's still some chance it was a beta run of an upcoming bump to Android 4.2.2.

Stay tuned to Latinos Post for more information on Android 4.2.2 for the Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx and Droid RAZR Maxx HD as it becomes available.
