Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul is hoping to get back on the court before the 2014 NBA All-Star Game on February 16 in New Orleans.
Paul, who has been sidelined with a separated right shoulder he sustained earlier this month, is looking forward to playing in the annual All-Star Game, saying that playing in front of New Orleans fans again will be a great experience.
The 28-year-old point guard spent six seasons with the New Orleans franchise before being dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers before the 2011-12 NBA season.
"If I can play, I'm going to play, I love to play that much," Paul said in a statement as reported by ESPN Los Angeles. "The All-Star Game is in New Orleans and that's part of me. That's where I played my very first All-Star Game at. Anytime you have that opportunity, I'm not going to pass that up because it's not guaranteed to happen next year."
However, is still unclear whether or not Paul will be named to the Western Conference All-Star team this year.
The NBA is expected to announce the All-Star Game starters on Thursday, but Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry is tipped to be named as the starting point guard.
Paul was the leading vote-getter among Western Conference point guards before sustaining the right shoulder injury.
The former Wake Forest standout could be named as a reserve on January 30, but in the event the nine-year veteran fails to crack the roster, he vowed to be in New Orleans as a spectator.
As for his current condition, Paul said that his shoulder is responding to the treatment very well, while also saying that he is keeping himself in good condition in order to make an immediate impact once he is cleared to make his return.
"I feel better," Paul said when asked about his injured shoulder. "I'm still trying to get the range of motion where I want it at. Right now, the only good thing about this thing is nothing happened to my legs so I've been able to do conditioning."
Paul, who is considered as one of the early favorites for this year's Most Valuable Player award, averaged 19.6 points to go along with 11.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds in 34 games this season.
