It's finally here. Developer Blizzard, the company behind StarCraft 2, has released the newest patch for the game, patch 2.1, adding new content to the free Starter Edition of the game, and allowing users to experience more in the game than ever before.
The full details of Patch 2.1 can be found on Battle.net, which is available now in North America and Europe. One of the biggest new pieces of content that comes with the patch is the ability to play Arcade Mode in the Starter Edition of the game. In addition, Starter Edition players will be able to use customized maps in the game for the first time. The other massive piece of new content coming with Patch 2.1: players will be able to use all three of the playable factions for StarCraft 2 in the free edition of the game.
These new pieces of content could breathe fresh life into StarCraft 2 and make the game even more popular as users will be able to enjoy more of the game and be able to partake in the full experience of playing as the Zerg, Terran, and Protoss factions just like in the original StarCraft and customize their own maps to add new layers of strategy to the game.
The patch also delivers some more specialized content that more hardcore StarCraft fans will appreciate. Custom modes for StarCraft 2 will now allow Extension Mods that can further change the way players experience the real time strategy game. One of these mods includes the classic StarCraft mod Big Game Hunters that allows users to get far more resources than usual. As an added bonus to veterans of the series, patch 2.1 will make the soundtracks to StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War available for use in StarCraft 2.
StarCraft 2 is a cultural phenomenon, and the game is played by millions of dedicated fans all over the world.
StarCraft 2 was first released on July 27, 2010, and Blizzard will continue to deliver new content for the game in the time to come. Most notably, the second expansion pack for the game, Legacy of the Void, has yet to be released, and the Protoss focused expansion pack has no release date set. The game has continued the legacy of the series as one of the premier international eSports games, with many of the highest paid professional video game players specializing in StarCraft.
