PlayStation 4 owners are reporting a new error in several games that is corrupting save files, meaning users could lose tens of hours of progress in games affected by the glitch.
Numerous PlayStation 4 owners have taken to the PlayStation Forums recently to air their grievences about error code "ce-34878-0" popping up on their consoles. This error is occurring in several of the PS4's most popular games such as FIFA 14, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, NBA 2K14 and Battlefield 4. The error is reportedly causing users to lose the save files for their games, thus deleting their progress and forcing them to start over. For anyone who has spent large amounts of time playing a game, this error could be devastating news and ruin the gameplaying experience entirely. In addition, some users are reporting that the error also causes the apps found on the PlayStation 4 to stop working.
While Sony has posted a temporary fix for this new error, there is no word on when a permanent fix will be patched in for this bug.
"If you are experiencing this ce-34878-0 error code, please close the application and then install the latest system software and game patch. If the error occurs again, initialize the PS4 system after back-up of the save data and please also submit any crash reports after re-booting your console when the error occurs," wrote Sony.
Other users are reporting that restarting the PlayStation 4 is a more successful solution for killing the bug instead of choosing to overwrite the corrupted data. This may rescue the save file from deletion and cause the error code to disappear. However, despite these solutions, the error is still popping up on the PlayStation 4, so users should be vigilant.
The PlayStation 4 has managed to avoid major errors so far in the console's life, however, early on there were some reports of hardware errors occurring on the console. Some users reported a piece of metal sticking out of the HDMI port of the console that prevented video output on the console. Others had the so-called "Blue Line of Death" error that froze up the PlayStation 4 and prevented users from doing anything with the console. However, this error appears to have been fixed with newer PlayStation 4 consoles.
