Google released the latest market share figures for its Android mobile operating system for the first week of January 2014.
According to Google, the Android Jelly Bean versions of the platform remain popular among devices. The Jelly Bean codename existed between Android 4.1 and 4.3.
The Android Jelly Bean 4.1.x series accounted for 35.9 percent of the market share. Android Jelly Bean version 4.2.x garnered 15.4 percent while Jelly Bean 4.3 represented 7.8 percent.
In total, the Jelly Bean series amassed 59.1 percent of the total Android market share.
The Android Gingerbread version remained popular as well. Gingerbread, which mainly existed between versions 2.3.3 and 2.3.7, accounted for 21.2 percent of the market share.
Meanwhile, the latest Android version has gained momentum. Android KitKat 4.4 represented 1.4 percent of the market share. The KitKat market share was enough to surpass Froyo 2.2 and Honeycomb 3.2 versions.
Android Froyo accounted for 1.3 percent of the market share while Honeycomb achieved 0.1 percent.
The latest Android versions data was collected during a seven-day period ending on Jan. 8. Google noted any version with less than 0.1 percent distribution was not accounted for.
"Because this data is gathered from the new Google Play Store app, which supports Android 2.2 and above, devices running older versions are not included," noted Google. "However, in August, 2013, versions older than Android 2.2 accounted for about 1 [percent] of devices that checked in to Google servers (not those that actually visited Google Play Store)."
