Great Britain's top welterweight Amir Khan could give a ton of problems to Floyd Mayweather Jr., should the Grand Rapid native pick the two-time junior welterweight champion for his May 3 bout at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. Nev., Showtime Boxing analyst Steve Farhood said in a recent interview with Hustleboss.

Farhood, who has covered a number of blockbuster bouts with Showtime Boxing, believed Khan should not be overlooked because he has the tools to give Mayweather trouble inside the ring. Farhood stressed that Khan's length and quickness will be his greatest weapons against the best defensive fighter in the world.

"I think Khan has a style, being tall, being rangy, and being very fast, that could give Floyd a lot of trouble," Farhood said via Hustleboss.

The Showtime analyst added that Khan has the same fighting style Oscar De La Hoya employed against Mayweather in their record-breaking fight in 2007. The Golden Boy almost scored an upset win over Money May with his solid jabs and rough style of boxing, but the Grand Rapids native managed to squeak out a split decision win.

"The blueprint for how to fight Floyd was created by Oscar De La Hoya years ago. Rangy, tall guy with a good jab. That's the way Khan will fight. I don't think Floyd's a big enough puncher anymore. I don't think it's as easy fight as many people think," he added.

Laughable Comments

24 Boxing News analyst Scott Gilfoid believed Farhood's comments are quite laughable, given that Mayweather is a far more superior boxer than Khan. Gilfoid added he doesn't think Khan will finish the 12-round battle against a boxer of Mayweather's caliber, insisting that the Briton does not have the chin to withstand heavy blows.

"I just can't imagine Khan staying on his feet after getting hit with a hook that he doesn't see coming from Mayweather. If former lightweight Julio Diaz was able to put Khan on the canvas, then you can bet that Mayweather will be able to do the same thing again and again and again until the referee chooses to stop the fight," Gilfoid said.

Mayweather, who recently had a trip in South Africa, remains without an opponent heading into the third week of January, though he's expected to announce his next foe in the coming days.
