Holly Holm made Ronda Rousey eat dust four months ago. Miesha Tate knocked Holm down last Saturday. Is this Rousey's chance to get the title back? She now has the chance to, even without a rematch against Holm. She just needs to beat Tate.
Miesha Tate Knocks Down Holly Holm, Ronda Rousey is Next?
Holm's hold on the UFC bantamweight champion title lasted only four months. After her stunning win over Rousey to become the new UFC champion, which Latin One reported, Holm now lost to Tate -- who last year said she is already considering retirement. The title seems to be moving around quickly.
Tate subjected Holm to a rear-naked choke at 3:30 of the final round at their Saturday night fight, per ESPN. In her post-match news conference, Holm admitted that she was the one responsible for her loss. "I let my guard down, and it cost me the fight," Holm said.
UFC President Dana White announced on the same night that Tate's first bantamweight defense will be against Rousey. The problem is that Rousey has not even set a return date yet. "I think that Ronda now will fight Miesha Tate for the title. That's what's going to happen," White said. "That's what I said before this fight even happened. Whoever wins tonight will fight Ronda for the title."
Tate: Rousey Wants Travis Browne's Baby than Title
Even with all these speculations, Tate herself said she is not sure if Rousey will even want to fight her. The new champ thinks after Rousey's upset loss to Holm last year, she would rather keep a low profile and have a baby. "I don't even know what [Ronda] is thinking right now ... it seems like her motivation to stick around was to have Travis Browne's baby. So, I don't know," Tate said in an interview, as per TMZ Sports, on Monday.
Her words seemed like false bravado considering she was beaten twice by Rousey already. Fans are really raring to see a third match between the two of them.
Moreover, White herself said he contacted Rousey and learned that even though the former champ was not watching the fight between Holm and Tate, she is ready to get the title out of Tate's hands as hard as she can. "I text Ronda, and she said, 'What happened?'" White said. "I said, 'Miesha just choked her unconscious.' She said, 'Looks like I gotta get back to work.'"
Don't Put Holm Out of the Game Though
While the attention has shifted to Tate and Rousey, Holm is not one to sit back. She is not regretting her decision to fight Tate either, even before she and Rousey had the chance to enter a rematch. Even though she was not able to defend the title long, she is not letting that get into her. "I'm in it to fight. That's what I'm in it for," Holm said, per ESPN. "And tonight, I made some mistakes. ... I need to fix those mistakes. I'm going to come back stronger," she said.
