The Pokémon fever continues to rise as Nintendo pits Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue fans against each other in the upcoming Pokémon-themed Splatfest.

Starting on February 20, fans of both Blue and Red Pokémon are welcome to join the Splatfest in a battle that will last for 24 hours.

"Splatoon players should get ready for a Pokémon-themed Splatfest starting on February 20 at 1 a.m. ET! In advance of this fun event, visit Inkopolis Plaza inside the game to choose which is your favorite: Pokémon Red or Pokémon Blue! The Splatfest runs until February 21 at 10 p.m. ET," a statement from the official Pokémon website read.

For those who are not aware, Splatfest is an event in Splatoon that pits two opposing sides in a multiplayer game with previous themes that include cats and dogs, rollercoasters and water slides, naughty and nice, and many more.

The event takes place within 24 hours and the winner is the side with the highest amount of points.

Members of the opposing sides are given a specific color to reflect their side -- the same color with which they will paint the areas to help earn points for their team.

According to Tech Radar, the upcoming Pokémon-themed event will finally put an end to the 20-year-old debate on whether the Pokémon Red or Pokémon Blue is better.

Furthermore, the outlet revealed that the event not only aims to celebrate Pokémon's 20th anniversary but also to introduce a digital form of the Red and Blue editions of the game.

After the Splatfest theme was announced, many became excited and nostalgic at the same time and especially adults who had been previously-and currently-addicted to the franchise.

Some, like Joey Davidson of Techno Buffalo, preferred the Red edition simply because of its cover.

However, Ron Duwell, a contributor for the outlet, had been more addicted with the game when he chose the Blue version when he was still young since he was able to read the special mini-issues of Pokémon comics that came with their magazine subscription.

The two exchanged memories of the video game, the trading cards as well as the TV show and agreed on this: the first batch of 151 Pokémon monsters is the best by far.

Fortunately, Nintendo plans on re-introducing these awesome creations on February 27 on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console.

How about you? Which side are you on?
