The drama film "The Revenant" took home the most wins at this year's British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards night which happened on Sunday.
Reuters reported that the movie bagged five awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Director for Mexican Alejandro González Inarritu.
It added that the film was also recognized for its cinematography and sound.
"The Revenant" which premiered in theaters last February 3 tells the story of "frontiersman" Hugh Glass who embarks on an expedition on fur trading during the 1820s. IMDB said he had to fight bears and even members of his hunting team during his journey.
According to Reuters, he was left by his companions after getting attacked by a bear. Luckily, he was able to survive despite the extreme winter temperatures and was determined to seek revenge for what he suffered.
DiCaprio, who is also expected to soar during the upcoming Oscars, thanked his mother during his acceptance speech. He also mentioned actors Peter O'Toole, Daniel Day-Lewis and Gary Oldman as his inspirations in the industry.
"All of this was not expected tonight ... Often we have talked about how difficult this movie was to make, and it was, but we are so proud," he was quoted by Reuters as saying.
As for Inarritu, the filmmaker tagged his win as an "overwhelming" achievement. BBC mentioned that the director also recognized the efforts of DiCaprio in the movie.
Inarritu noted that the actor poured out his commitment and talent for the "risky project" and this helped a lot in the filmmaking stage.
According to the Telegraph, DiCaprio returned the compliment by saying that the director showed remarkable intelligence while they were working on the movie.
Meanwhile, The Guardian said the many considered one of the hardest ones to do as the director wanted to use everything natural with his creation.
The main actor also admitted that some scenes in the movie were probably among the hardest ones he had to do in his entire acting career.
With the recent recognition of "The Revenant" at the BAFTA, The Wrap said that people can already conclude that it will also be a big winner during the Oscars.
The same report mentioned that last year the BAFTA shared 14 similar winners out of the 19 categories with the Oscars.
The Best Film winners declared by the British awards body for six consecutive years until 2014 were also reportedly the same Oscar's Best Picture awardees.
