Zayn Malik seems to be doing well without One Direction to "drag him down." The "Pillowtalk" singer has recently been making waves in the music industry, propelling him to an even bigger star than his former One Direction mates.

MTV reports that Zayn's sexy ballad, "Pillowtalk," has debuted at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. This was a milestone for the singer, as he never managed to clinch that honor while being with One Direction. While the singer managed to have many hit songs with his mates over at One Direction, none of the songs came as close as to his "Pillowtalk" accomplishment.

The singer celebrated his victory being on top of the hit charts by posting a celebratory picture on his Instagram in which the singer was seen holding a bunch of balloons, including a "number one" balloon, reports The Mirror.

Besides making it big on the Billboard Hot 100, "Pillowtalk" found massive success in other countries as well. Zayn Malik captioned the Instagram post with thanking his fans and supporters for believing in him. He thanked them for the amazing loyalty they have given him since his announcement of leaving One Direction last year. The singer admitted to wanting better things for himself and he felt like staying in the band would not help him pursue it. 

Zayn Malik's peers in One Direction have also accomplished some success post-Zayn with their song "Drag Me Down," which climbed up to number 3 in the Billboard Hot 100 in August of last year. One Direction also managed to make it up to number two in the Billboard Hot 100 back in 2013 with "Best Song Ever."

Malik also managed to hit 267,000 downloads with his debut song, which has  become the fastest song made by a debut artist to reach number one on Spotify.

Malik is breaking records left and right and also become the first artist whose name starts with the letter Z to make it to the top of the charts. He has also become the first artist in the United Kingdom to break the hit charts at number one with a debut single.

Fans from all over the world have celebrated Zayn Malik's success and are optimistic that it can only take him further. Malik is set to debut his first album, "Mind of Mine," on March 25 of this year.
