Controversial mobile game Plastic Surgery for Barbie has been taken off of the Apple App Store and the Google Play store due to the game's themes and possible copyright infringement issues.

Plastic Surgery for Barbie is an unlicensed game based on the popular dolls that asks users to perform plastic surgery on an overweight woman to make her trim. The game, developed by Corina Rodriguez, is no longer available for purchase on either Apple or Android products, but the game's iTunes product page is still available to view through Google Cache. Here's the game's official description:

"This unfortunate girl has so much extra weight that no diet can help her. In our clinic she can go through a surgery called liposuction that will make her slim and beautiful. We'll need to make small cuts on problem areas and suck out the extra fat. Will you operate her, doctor?"

The game made waves when users began to discover the nature of the game, which is designed for children, and the public outcry combined with pressure from Mattel (which owns the Barbie) caused the game to get pulled from online stores. Former British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons President Nigel Mercer, condemned the game for being "sexist and disturbing" and being marketed for children.

"This app blatantly and shamelessly uses child-friendly brand names [such as Barbie] to target young, vulnerable children and exposes them to sexist and disturbing rhetoric as the 'game' critiques the body of a cartoon character who does not conform to an unrealistic beauty standard. Even more shockingly, the app then encourages children to utilize surgery - going so far as to include images of syringes, scalpels and liposuction cannulas - to 'fix' the patient, who is described as an 'unfortunate girl'. That Apple or Google could condone this disgraceful app as a game suitable for children is no less than sickening. This app should not be available because it is not 'socially responsible'," Mercer told the BBC

Mattel said the company does not support the themes of the game along with the use of the Barbie name without their consent.

"The Barbie name was recently featured in an application that was not sanctioned by Mattel. This app has since been removed from iTunes. At Mattel, we take our commitment to children seriously and work hard to ensure there are no unauthorized uses of our brands that may be unsafe or inappropriate for children," Mattel said in a statement.
