iOS vs. Android vs. Windows Phone Market Share in Spain: Google Mobile OS Tops 87 Percent as Apple Inc. Narrowly Escapes Microsoft

Google's presence in Spain continued to grow in the smartphone operating system market share as it easily commanded first place.

Based on the three months ending in November 2013 provided by Kantar Worldpanel, Google's Android platform saw an increase of utilization by 4.8 percentage points. As a result, Android finished the three-month period with 87.3 percent of the Spanish market share. In the three months ending in November 2012, Android accounted for 82.5 percent of the market share.

Between Apple and Microsoft, the iOS platform narrowly edged out Windows Phone for second place.

Apple's iOS platform finished a distant 81 percentage points behind Android. iOS garnered 6.3 percent of the market share once November 2013 finished, which is an increase of 1.6 percentage points from the previous year.

Microsoft's Windows Phone saw a better market share percentage increase compared to iOS, but it was not enough for second place. While Windows Phone placed third, the Microsoft smartphone operating system grew by 2.9 percentage points. For the three months ending in November 2013, Windows Phone accounted for 4.8 percent of the market share in Spain, which is an increase from the 1.9 percent in 2012.

BlackBerry was the sole major smartphone operating system to encounter a market share percentage loss, per Kantar Worldpanel's data. Between the three months ending in November 2012 and the same period in 2013, BlackBerry's market share fell by 3.7 percentage points. The smartphone platform fell from third to fourth place as a result. BlackBerry finished November 2013 with 0.2 percent of the market share.
