Looking for a budget-friendly way to keep yourself on the cusp of stock Android? Google has just the answer now with the release of the Moto G Google Play edition.

The Moto G Google Play edition takes affordability to a new level for an off-contract phone. Buyers can pick up an 8GB Moto G Google Play edition for $179, or opt for 16GB storage for $199. There's only one color available—black—but there's more than enough to make up for the lack of colors. The Moto G Google Play edition only works on AT&T or T-Mobile networks, sorry GSM network users on Sprint or Verizon.

For starters, the Moto G Google Play edition runs the latest version of Android, which is currently Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The operating system is stock Android, and given the fact that the Moto G is a Google Play edition phone, it's going to receive new Android versions straight from Google—in other words, fast.

Keep in mind this isn't too different from how the Moto G has been sold in the United States. The Moto G has only been available off contract, and the phone runs a near-stock version of Android. Motorola has also updated the phone to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The only difference is that the Google Play edition will probably get future updates slightly earlier than normal models.

The Moto G features a 4.5-inch 720p display that pushes out 329 pixels per inch, a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front shooter.

Are you going to pick up a Moto G Google Play edition? If so, let us know why in the comments section below.
