Warner Bros. and DC quenched "Suicide Squad" fans' thirst for new footage with a humorous new trailer, underscored by the equally awesome single from Queen, the "Bohemian Rhapsody."
Harley Quinn and the rest of the anti-heroes from the DC Cinematic Universe are prepping for their big debut on the big screen. A new clip showcases about two and a half minutes of explosive fun and excitement for DC comics fans.
According to Cinema Blend, the new trailer has presented itself in a new and comedic light, contrary to the expected dark and serious themes, similar to other upcoming DCCU movies.
"I have to admit that I'm kind of blown away," Cinema Blend contributor Eric Eisenberg began.
"After Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I was really expecting Suicide Squad to be another dark, serious comic book movie, but that's not the picture that this trailer paints at all," he added.
Meanwhile, Hollywood Reporter noted that "almost everything" that viewers should know about the flick has already been incorporated in the clip.
First off is the establishment of the team, highlighted by the statement from Viola Davis' character Amanda Waller stating, "I want to assemble a task force of the most dangerous people on the planet."
From there, the footage changes to a scene where Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) describes every member of the team in words that are not their names or aliases, like "guy who shoots people," "he's a crocodile and he eats people," "burns people," "you're possessed by a witch," and "she's just crazy."
And, while they may have already proclaimed themselves as the "worst heroes ever," Billboard notes that the characters in David Ayer's DCCU movie have definitely been presented as "compelling protagonists."
However, Hit Fix writer Donna Dickens believes that the film itself is a "disappointment," emphasizing how the film "fails" Harley Quinn.
According to Dickens, the trailer proved the movie to be one that is not made for female audiences, noting how every woman in it (except for Amanda Waller) has been "scantily dressed for no good reason," while the men remain clothed throughout the film.
Citing Enchantress' skimpy outfit as well as Katana's "midriff baring top," Dickens believes the biggest blunder the film has ever made is making Harley Quinn look like "something from a prepubescent boy's dream."
Despite this, there is still good reason to watch out for the "Suicide Squad" premiere on August 5, particularly after sites like Cinema Blend and Hollywood Reported claimed it to be DC's version of "Guardians of the Galaxy" --except cooler.
