When "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" debuted in theaters, fans of the franchise came up with their own theories as to who Rey, the main protagonist, really is. The female protagonist's mysterious identity has become a favorite topic for debate.

As for possible theories of Rey's identity, there are those who argue that Rey might be a Solo or even a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Many say that Rey is actually a Skywalker. With "Star Wars Episode 8" being only a year away, there is still room for debate as to who the mysterious scavenger really is.

Here are the top 5 clues to Rey's mysterious lineage.

1. Luke's lightsaber specifically calls out to Rey.

In the scene at Maz Kanata's castle, Rey is immediately drawn to the elusive lightsaber. According to Buzzfeed, Rey is immediately shown images of the past, such as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker's clash in Cloud City. The images also offer Rey a glimpse into her own life, such as her own duel with Kylo Ren and her abandonment as a child in Jakku. The images also show Kylo Ren's slaughter of Luke's young Jedi apprentices, which might suggest that Rey might have been a young Jedi in training during this time, and this was why she was hidden in Jakku.

2. Rey being a natural at advanced technology is directly connected to her Force sensitivity, much like Luke and Anakin.

During the course of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," it becomes apparent that Rey has a natural aptitude for mastering complicated technology, such as piloting the Millennium Falcon. According to Buzzfeed, her aptitude of technology mirrors that of Luke and Anakin's intuitive talents, as both were connected to the Force. In addition, Rey's story arc in "The Force Awakens" is about her finding about her intuition and her strong connection with the Force. Rey is portrayed as someone who is focused and lacks an ego. She does not have Kylo Ren's destructive personality, giving her a deeper connection to the Force, without the need to be trained.

3. Han Solo seems to warm up quickly to Rey.

In "The Force Awakens" it also becomes apparent that Han Solo seems to warm up quickly to Rey, despite his temperament. He also gifts her with the blaster, and offers her the chance to become a permanent member of the Millennium Falcon. According to Collider, fans believe that she could be the child of Han Solo and Leia Organa. This would explain why Leia went to embrace Rey immediately after finding out about Han Solo's death at the hands of Kylo Ren.

4. Rey's life as a scavenger in Jakku mirrors Anakin and Luke's childhoods.

When the film first opens, Rey is a poor scavenger in Jakku. Anakin had a miserable childhood, while Luke had a boring one on his aunt and uncle's moisture farm. This also seems to be one of the recurring themes of the films, with the hero being poor and coming from the middle of nowhere.

5. Rey's belief that Luke is a myth will set up for the sequel.

According to Buzzfeed, Rey will most likely be disappointed in him. Rey will probably urge Luke to come back into action by asking him of his status as the hero of the Rebellion.

"Star Wars Episode 8" opens in theaters on May 26, 2017.
