Stars of the hit musical movie "High School Musical" will be reunited Wednesday on Disney Channel, but without Zac Efron.
An Associated Press report mentioned that the cast of the movie will be celebrating their 10th anniversary with a tribute reunion.
It noted that among those who will appear in the 8 p.m. Wednesday special will be Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman.
Efron, who is one of the main stars in the movie, will not be seen in the pre-taped reunion, since he had an earlier commitment for his "Dirty Grandpa" movie promotion.
A spokesperson for Disney Channel said in the AP report that Efron will have recorded remarks, which will also be art of the airing.
Meanwhile, Laughing Place noted that the reunion happened at the high school gymnasium in Los Angeles, where the movie was also shot.
Disney Channels Worldwide president and chief creative officer Gary Marsh told the same report that the gathering of the "High School Musical" cast after 10 years showed what made the movie special when it was first aired.
"It's their optimism, their dedication and their extraordinary talent-as a group-that made this such an exceptional movie and cultural phenomenon. Ten years later, the movie continues to delight audiences around the globe, not just for its memorable song and dance numbers, but for its universal themes that continue to resonate with fans everywhere -- express yourself, believe in yourself and always follow your dreams," Marsh added.
Laughing Place also highlighted that when the Disney Channel Original Movie became a hit in 2006, it recorded a 7.7 million views in the United States. In that same year, there were also more than 100 million unduplicated viewers of the movie.
According to IMDB, the movie tells the story of teenagers Troy Bolton (Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Hudgens), who both enroll at the same high school. They end up auditioning together for a school musical, which highlights their talent and passion for music, while they develop a liking for each other in the meantime.
Conflicts with Sharpay Evans, the main antagonist, also make the movie exciting and full of colors.
The movie gave birth to chart-topping hits like "Start of Something New," "Breaking Free," and "We're All in This Together."
Aside from the 10th year reunion, there will also be telecasts of the movie and its sequel on Thursday and Sunday for fans to look back to the film that got them hooked a decade ago.
