"Sons of Anarchy" fans can look forward to seeing a lot more of Jax's ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child once the show returns later on this year.
The FX series, which is slated to debut its seventh and final season in September, will bring on Drea de Matteo to play Wendy, a junkie, in a larger role. According to TVLine, the Emmy winning actress has been promoted to a series regular.
Although Wendy has been a consistent presence on the show except for Seasons 2 and 3, this marks De Matteo's first stint as a full-fledged regular.
Last month, Season 6 of "Sons of Anarchy" ended with a bang and a huge cliff hanger that left fans wanting more.
Viewers were shocked when Jax Teller discovered that his wife Tara was murdered on the floor of their home in the finale. Unsurprisingly, the episode, titled "A Mother's Work," earned the highest ratings in the show's history with 5.2 million viewers.
Now, the questions remains on what's in store for SOA in the upcoming final season next year, and whether Jax be charged with Tara's murder.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, series creator Kurt Sutter revealed that Season 7 would pick up a few weeks after the final scene in "A Mother's Work." Also, it is more than likely Jax will be brought in for questioning by DA Patterson, who may want to know how and why two people who had recently been in contact with Jax died.
"I think procedurally they would definitely bring him in and at the very least begin the questioning process," said Sutter speaking of Jax.
Season 7 of "Sons of Anarchy" premieres September 2014 on FX.
