iOS vs. Android Market Share 2013 in Germany: Google Android OS Conquers With 75 Percent; Windows Phone Gains as iOS Slips, Says Kantar

Google and Microsoft have increased their smartphone operating system market shares in Germany while Apple encountered the steepest loss among the platforms provided by Kantar Worldpanel.

According to data for the three months ending in November 2013, the Google Android smartphone operating system increased its usage by 5.2 percentage points in comparison to the same period in 2012. The Android platform finished November 2013 with 74.7 percent of the smartphone operating system market share in Germany, which is up from the 69.5 percent during the previous year.

Microsoft's Windows Phone saw the second-highest market share percentage increase of 3.8 percent. As a result, Windows Phone garnered 5.7 percent of the market share, which is an increase from the 1.9 percent during the three months ending in November 2012. Despite the percentage increase, Microsoft was not able to topple Apple's iOS. However, Microsoft managed to dethrone BlackBerry for third place.

Apple's iOS platform maintained second place in Germany. However, iOS lost 3.8 percentage points when comparing the three months ending in November 2012 and November 2013. iOS concluded November 2013 with 17.3 percent of the market share, which is down from the 21.1 percent in 2012.

BlackBerry saw its smartphone operating system market share drop by 1.3 percentage points. BlackBerry, as a result of the percentage drop, fell from third place to fourth place on Kantar Worldpanel's ranks. BlackBerry finished the three months ending in November 2013 with 0.8 percent of the market share, which is down from the 2.1 percent in 2012.
