After being left out by its biggest competitors, Nintendo is now trying to create a blast big enough to make up for losses incurred by the Wii U failure.

In a report, Screen Rant noted that the legendary gaming console maker appears to be "struggling to keep up" with Sony and Microsoft, as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One continue to boost their makers' earnings, particularly during the holidays.

In fact, Wii U only sold almost 15 million units despite having three years to achieve the goal.

With this in mind, the outlet is led to believe that Nintendo will take action and make something big enough to match its competitors' products.

Much to the surprise of none, this speculation is actually true, as the company is reportedly planning to make a device that being hidden under the codename NX.

In fact, the Wall Street Journal got word that they have already distributed NX kits to their developers for testing and troubleshooting.

Details about the console are still vague, with Nintendo President Tatsumi Kmishima giving out very little information during a public interview with Time's Matt Peckham, where he promised an entirely "new experience."

"I can assure you we're not building the next version of Wii or Wii U. It's something unique and different. It's something where we have to move away from those platforms in order to make it something that will appeal to our consumer base," he added.

However, new patents cited in a report from Tech Radar revealed that the new console may be a cross between the Wii U and the GameCube pad.

Now, a recent statement from Nomura Securities cited in Barrons implied that the new Nintendo NX may actually be a hybrid of a handheld device and a console.

According to Nomura Securities, they initially forecasted minimal impact of the release of NX to the sales of Nintendo's 3DS and Wii U since it was not positioned to become a successor to either console.

However, recent developments forced them to change their views, since 3DS sales have started to weaken even as it enters its sixth year in the market.

Aside from that, Barrons cited a statement from Nomura Securities' analyst Junko Yamamura, stating that the new Nintendo console will be available for purchase before 2016 ends, around October or November.

The bigger news is that the official announcement of the "concept" console will be done any time between March and May, and that the unveiling of the device itself is expected by June during the E3 2016.
