Michael Bay is back to direct "Transformers 5," which is set to be released in 2017. In true Bay fashion, things are bound to be explosive.

According to Cinema Blend, Bay confirmed the rumors himself that he will be returning for the upcoming "Transformers 5," which is scheduled for a summer 2017 release date. There were previous speculations that Bay would not be involved in the project, but the famed director has already dispelled those rumors.

The "Armageddon" director is best known for creating action-packed movies that are anything but small scale. Bay recently appeared in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine to talk about his upcoming projects, including "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows," which will reportedly mark the debut of supervillain Krang.

The director teased that Krang "looks like a stupid octopus" when asked what the nefarious villain will look like in the upcoming film.

Bay's massively successful films seem to get bigger and louder every year. The "Pearl Harbor" director's 20-year career has grossed over $5 billion, making him the fourth most successful director worldwide.

Michael Bay's upcoming film, "13 Hours," is an action thriller about the Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. The film is based on the true story of a team of six American CIA agents who fought to defend the American diplomatic compound on September 11th, 2012. Four of these Americans were killed, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and two former Navy SEALs.

In the interview with the publication, Bay admitted that the movie industry has "really changed." He said that "middle budget films" are now basically non-existent and that people only want to see big-budget films. The director added that he had a lot of fun doing the "Tranformers" movies.

While he admitted that there will come a time when he will have to stop and "pass the reins to someone else," he said that today is not that day.

"J.J. [Abrams] told me, 'You're the only guy that could do this.' But it's time to move on. One more." Bay said.

Bay was also asked about his legacy as a filmmaker and what it felt like to belong to the league of highly respected directors. Despite his success, the director hasn't given it much thought. He added that "his legacy" seemed rather arrogant and that it is not worth losing sleep over not having an Oscar. 

"Transformers 5" is set to debut in summer of 2017.
