For his major fight this year, Mexican professional boxer Canelo Alvarez is said to be going against Kazakhstani fighter Gennady Golovkin.
According to BBC, the pairing of the two is a perfect one since Golovkin is seen to be a "dangerous" fighter in the ring, while Alvarez is a known beast in boxing.
"And what a fight it would be," added the same report, noting that the probability for this match is as high as 4 of 5 since their camps have both agreed to seal a fight.
It explained that Alvarez has already made his name in the boxing scene after he outclassed Miguel Cotto during his last fight.
On the other hand, Golovkin knocked out his three opponents last year. These two men are expected to be unstoppable on both ends of the ring if they fight against each other.
ESPN noted that the two are indeed facing each other in an agreed unification fight, but claimed that both their camps have "agreed to put off the mandatory fight until at least fall 2016 in order to build the fight into a major event."
The same report mentioned that Golovkin will have his interim bout in April, while Alvarez will have his Cinco de Mayo fight on May 7.
Golovkin has expressed his interest in fighting Ireland's Andy Lee, but the latter was recently defeated by Billy Joe Saunders in a fight last Dec. 19. Lee got knocked down twice by the Saunders during their match.
It was noted by Boxing Junkie that Alvarez could go against Willie Monroe Jr. or Gabriel Rosado.
"All 154- to 160-pound fighters are being considered. We will meet with Canelo next week and start narrowing down the field," noted Golden Boy Promotions Vice President Eric Gomez.
There are still no details on the venue of the fight nor the weight category of the fighters.
But Boxing Junkie said that Canelo, as always, will prepare to bring out his best, either with Monroe or Rosado.
Monroe has reportedly lost to Golovkin for his previous match, while Rosado lost four of his last six fights.
The fight is expected to be intense since Canelo proved his worth in his win versus Cotto, which earned about $58 million in revenue and an estimated 900,000 pay-per-view purchases.
Bleacher Report added Alvarez is one of the most accomplished boxers in the industry after the retirement of undefeated American fighter Floyd Mayweather. The Mexican's only defeat was the split-decision loss to "Pretty Boy" three years ago.
