Square Enix has announced that its popular role playing game, "Final Fantasy IX" will be released for PC and smartphones. This means that gamers will be able return to the adventures of Zidane, Garnet, and Vivi.

In a report with Tech Times, the fantasy role playing game was initially released in 2000 on the original PlayStation. "Final Fantasy IX" would spell the franchise's final journey on the original console before moving on to PlayStation 2. The ninth installment of the series follows the adventures of Zidane and Garnet after Zidane attempts to Garnet. The pair then find themselves journeying in series of world-changing events. One of the known themes of the game is identity, and this is widely explored from various characters' perspectives.

There are very minimal details on the port, but the website reports that it's reasonable to think that the game will be following the same lines as the similar PC ports of "Final Fantasy VII" and "Final Fantasy VIII." The website also reports that the game will be featuring - newly-added achievements, including the ability to turn off random encounters. When it comes to added content, the website reports that there aren't really any to report about.

According to IGN, there is no word as of now as when exactly the release date will be, although the website did say that the release date would be "soon". Square Enix certainly has not shied away from the idea idea of releasing its other Final Fantasy ports outside of Japan. An announcement for North America and Europe is expected to take place within the year.

Earlier this month, "Final Fantasy VI" was released on Steam and has joined the likes of Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, and several others.

As of the moment, system specifications haven't been announced, but it's already safe to say Final Fantasy IX will run on most PCs. Android gamers are required to have a device with Android 4.1 or later while those with iOS devices will require at least an iPhone 5S or a fourth generation iPad, running on iOS 7.0 or later.

"Final Fantasy IX" has been praised by many gamers the world over for its fresh setting. The game is also remembered for its endearing roster of characters. This installment is seen as a throwback to the earlier games in the series that were deeply rooted in a fantasy world. Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII notably took place in a modern world.
