It also stands as a beacon of hope. The park was opened in 1990 by then President Violeta Barrios de Chamorro. The park has a unique beauty in which symbols of war, such as machine guns and pistols, are interred in concrete.

3. Nueva Catedral -- This architectural marvel leaves many visitors in awe, due to its rather unusual facade. The 63 cupolas reportedly symbolize Nicaragua's 63 Catholic churches. They also provide structural support during earthquakes, as the structure sits above a fault line.

4. Plaza de la Revolucion -- This offers a look into the dark past of Nicaragua. The open park was inaugurated in 1899 by national hero General José Santos Zelaya. The site is rich in history and has witnessed countless protests, parades, romances and more. The tomb of Sandinista commander Carlos Fonseca is also located here.

5. El Puerto -- This is one of the highly recommended places to go out for a drink. Tourists can go grab a few beers and people-watch at this place. There's also a good pool table that people can play a few games on.
