Despite rumors swirling about a 2014 Samsung Galaxy S5 release slightly earlier in the year than previous Galaxy S releases, it looks like Samsung will be sticking to its usual schedule and launching the handset in April.

Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of the company's mobile business, told Bloomberg in an interview that Samsung isn't trying to push ahead its production cycle like many expected it to, and that a new wearable device would accompany the Galaxy S5's release.

"We've been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time," Lee said. "When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved."

Samsung may also try to one-up the Apple iPhone 5s's fingerprint scanner by including an eye scanner in the Galaxy S5.

"We are studying the possibility but can't really say whether we will have it or not on the S5," Lee said.

The interview with Lee also reveals that Samsung is incredibly keen on overhauling the Galaxy S's design in order to make the Galaxy S5 feel fresh. The Samsung Galaxy S4 simply didn't sell as well as expected, and one reason for that, Lee says, is because the Galaxy S4 was too similar to the Galaxy S3. Expect Samsung to try and turn heads again with new materials and designs.

Rumored specs for the Samsung Galaxy S5 include a 5.25-inch 2K HD display with a resolution of 2560X1440, a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor or 64-bit Exynos processor, up to 4GB RAM, a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, and Android 4.4 KitKat.
