"Chicago Fire" returned this week with Casey recovering from his injury and Dawson turning a new leaf.
In "Shoved in My Face," Casey (Jesse Spencer) is at home with Dawson (Monica Raymund) taking care of him. While Casey is recovering, he has violent outbursts due to his tunnel vision.
The case of the week involves a call in which a woman tells the firefighters that it's a false alarm, and blames it on the electrical work that is being done. The call doesn't seem quite right, so the team investigates. They walk in on a safe robbery; the robbers had set off the alarm while trying to cut through the steel door.
It is also discovered that Clark (Jeff Hephner), who was arrested for the murder of the loan shark/ex-lover of his ex-wife, did not commit the crime. Mills (Charlie Barnett) cracks the case by learning that the police had copies of text messages sent from the ex-wife to the now deceased loan shark, saying that she was jealous of him moving on. Clark did not speak to the police in order to protect his ex-wife, until he realized that she committed the murder, and provided an alibi to one of the detectives.
Meanwhile, Severide (Taylor Kinney) teaches a recruit class at the fire academy, and his sister, Katie (Brittany Curran), bonds with Otis (Yuriy Sardarov) while playing Settlers of Catan, and the two share a kiss. Mills also makes the squad.
Dawson breaks off her working partnership with Shay (Lauren German) and begins CFD training in Severide's class.
Shay now has a new partner, Allison Rafferty (Christine Evangelista), who appears to be homophobic. However, Rafferty is warming up to Shay, for she helps Shay hide from a lawyer who is coming to see her to talk about the suicide she witnessed.
On the next episode, "Out With a Bang," "Casey tries to convince everyone-including himself-that he's fully recovered from his traumatic accident, despite evidence to the contrary. Meanwhile, Shay avoids a lawyer who wants to talk to her about Daryl's suicide; Otis and Katie bond; Boden helps a woman deal with her irresponsible landlord; and Dawson notices something interesting about recruit Rebecca Jones."
"Out With a Bang" airs Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
