Microsoft has launched its Countdown sale for its game consoles.
On Dec. 22, the tech giant started offering 17 days of huge discounts on Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles, PC World reported. The most notable deals on Xbox One include 30 percent off "Grand Theft Auto V," 40 percent off "Ori and the Blind Forest," and 40 percent off "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt."
For the Xbox 360, Microsoft is offering 75 percent off "Red Dead Redemption" and 60 percent off "Madden NFL 16," PC World wrote. Xbox Live Gold members are given extra 10 percent off.

Microsoft will roll out another set of weekly deals from Dec. 29 to 31. Daily deals will be available as well, such as 50 percent off "Need for Speed," and 40 percent off a PopCap Bundle with "Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare" and "Peggle 2: Magical Masters Edition," PC World listed. On the whole, the company's set-up rather resembles Valve's own Steam sales, but with the absence of meta-games or flash sales that only last for a few hours.
Microsoft's goal is to attract last-minute holiday shoppers and those seeking for bargains after Christmas, CNET wrote. Sony's PlayStation 4 has triumphed over the Xbox One, which was released two years ago, when it comes to monthly sales. In 2014, Microsoft has managed to raise demands for the Xbox One by cutting prices, bundling free games, and offering other promotions.
Microsoft is also currently offering $50 off the price of the Xbox One console plus two free games, CNET added. Buyers also flock to the Xbox 360, which is perfect for those who are looking to purchase a less pricey and more basic console. Up to 40 percent to 60 percent off are being offered by the company for the Countdown sale, which includes other content and game titles.
Criticisms were hurled at the Xbox One in the past, largely because of its lack of backward compatibility, the news outlet noted. Xbox 360 users were unable to play any of their existing games on the Xbox One.
Microsoft addressed the issue this year, CNET wrote. Now, Xbox One owners can play more than 100 games intended for the Xbox 360, with more constantly being added on the list. Over 10 backward-compatible games have discounted prices at present because of the Countdown sale.
