The much-awaited new installment of the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," is about to launch on stage in London next year. The news surrounding the role of Hermione Granger made noise after it was revealed that the character will be played by a black woman.

According to the Daily Mail, the upcoming play will feature Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione as adults this time, which is far different from what fans are used to seeing in the movie versions. The boy-who-lives will be played by 36-year-old Jamie Parker, and Paul Thornley will take the role of his sidekick, Ron Weasley.

Hermione, who is cast by Noma Dumezweni, and Ron, are now married and continuing their love affair from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." They will all be seen in London's Palace Theatre in May of next year.

To recall, it was first reported that the tickets for the anticipated play already sold more than one fourth of the one million passes. Around 175,000 seats were taken in just 24 hours, which now holds the West End record.

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" was planned by the seven-series novel's author, JK Rowling, with scriptwriters Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, who will also direct the play. The producer of the show, Sonia Friedman, said that cast decisions were made by Rowling, Tiffany, Thorne, her co-producer Colin Callender and, of course, herself.

"We were all involved with all the key casting decisions," she told the Daily Mail. Meanwhile, The Guardian wrote that the 50-year-old novelist gave her approval for the casting of the 46-year-old English actress by saying that she loves the new Hermione.

On Twitter, Rowling was asked about the new take on the "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" leading character, which was first played by Emma Watson. She wrote: "brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione."

Dumezweni was originally born in Swaziland and has South African parents. She was relocated to England when she was just a young girl.

She is an award-winning actress with the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role under her belt, in the 2005 play, "A Raisin in the Sun." Additionally, she played Penny Skinner's, Linda, substituting for Kim Cattrall's role. The performance was superb, as reported by the Guardian critic, Susannah Clapp.
