Amidst all the controversy surrounding Nicki Minaj's invitation to perform in Angolo on Saturday, the 33-year-old star still headed to the Southern African nation. The Trinidadian beauty went in spite of human right activists trying to stop her.

In a statement revealed by The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) on their site, they noted that the payment the singer would receive would be coming from "government corruption and human rights violations." According to BBC News, the rapper entertained a number of Angolan people at a Christmas party in Luanda, sponsored by the telecommunications company, Unitel, which is partly owned by the country's President Jose Eduardo dos Santos' family.

It has been known that Angola is the second largest oil producer in Africa and helps the country's economy to upsurge, but, unfortunately, the profit merely secures the rich groups and does not help the poor families. Thor Halvorssen from HRF wrote that tickets for Minaj's performance were paid by Angola's government, which is "involved in gross human rights violation," and that her involvement was "improper."

Halvorssen added that company she appeared with is held by the daughter of the country's state leader, Isabel dos Santos, who is known as the richest woman in Africa. In fact, she was named by Transparency International as one of the 15 bodies that symbolizes grand corruption.

However, she quickly denied the allegations after two days, as her company, Fidequity, released a statement saying that they are an independent firm that do not use "public funds." Daily Mail added that the United Nations Development Program noted that more than 24 million people are poor, falling below the poverty line.

Hence, some families -- about 70 percent -- are squeezing their daily needs with less than $2 a day. Allegedly, dos Santos use an improbable sum of money from the government's funds to hold a number of successful companies and industries in Angola.

As the legislature of the country declared that it is illegal for the president to take control of the "financial holdings" of the nation's companies and organizations, dos Santos tried to think of a way to transfer his estates to Isabel. Additionally, HRF noted that Minaj's appearance could even affirm the head of state's "authoritarian rule," and even criticized the hitmaker of "callously taking money from a dictator."

Minaj received $2 million for her presentation. The crowd shouted her name repeatedly and Minaj herself shared a quick video on her Instagram account of the roaring crowd and captioned it with: "Angola has my heart."
