Wen Hair Products Under Fire For Causing Baldness

When it comes to hair, most women hold their own mane with pride, keeping in mind the many hair care products they have to buy to keep it smooth and shiny all day long.

Unfortunately for Chaz Dean, instead of falling all over him for his line of hair care products, the owner of WEN hair care had to face the ire of hundreds of people who believe his products to be less than satisfactory.

Dean has a number of high-profile clientele -- The Daily Mail noted that among these are Brooke Shields and Alyssa Milano. He also has a massive hair care line, but when 200 of his customers filed a class-action lawsuit against him, it looked like he wouldn't be having a good day after all.

The plaintiffs in the suit claimed that their hair care line, known for its 5-in-one sulfate-free cleansing conditioners, caused them significant hair loss and scalp burns. They also said that the brand did not warn consumers of the risks and dangers associated with the products. Finally, they added that once consumers began complaining of the hazards brought about by WEN hair care, the brand removed all negative reviews on social media instead of addressing them properly.

The lawsuit provided online reviews dating back to as far as 2012, with claims that the product turned hair brittle, while others noticed a significant rise in their hair falling out.

Wen and Chaz Dean, meanwhile, insist on refuting the allegations, telling People Style in a statement, "There is no scientific evidence to support any claim that our hair care products caused anyone to lose their hair. There are many reasons why individuals may lose their hair, all unrelated to WEN. We intend to vigorously contest the allegations made."

It went on, "We take great pride in the quality of our products and believe every product meets our high standards. We want all of our customers to have positive experiences with our products, and we encourage any customer with any questions to contact us."

Meanwhile, celebrity endorsers have not yet commented on the toxicity of WEN products for hair, but while there have been many complaints, even dermatologists agree that the causes of hair loss are hard to pin down specifically, making it hard for the members of the suit to prove their case.

However, the complaint is being taken seriously and Dallas-based law firm Christiansen-Davis is still accepting complaints. Unfortunately, with the case in its early stages and with no clear evidence, WEN is still being sold nationwide.

Do you use this hair care line, and is your experience with WEN positive or negative?
