The use of marijuana in Mexico has been legally permitted by the government for personal use; however, this only applied to four plaintiffs, who won their case. But, in spite of the limited legalization, it is still used by many -- especially as a traditional herbal medicine, and has been for years. 

In fact, a Mexican grandmother is using marijuana to treat her and her family's illnesses. She created a marijuana-infused alcohol that she rubs on her legs whenever she feels pain.

According to Raw Story, the granny knows perfectly well that the use of "homemade remedies" is against Mexico's marijuana prohibition, but she continues to use it because she has been making the mixture since she was a child. She has since passed it on to the next generation, as well. 

"I really have a lot of faith in it," a 53-year-old housewife and amateur dancer, who chose to hide her real identity, said about cannabis. "When I'm very tired, I spread it on my legs, feet, and body. It's really good. I can go without salt but not without marijuana with alcohol. My grandmother used it," as per Raw Story.

She even showed a plastic bottle that has marijuana leaves swimming in a liquid substance. She has used it to cure any sickness that her three children and grandchildren may have had. She simply places cotton, soaked in the said mixture, on the kids' belly button to heal their fevers, for example. It can even fight congestion once massaged into the toddlers' chests and back.

It has been known that Mexicans have been using marijuana as "grandma's magic remedy" against any discomfort, sickness and other illnesses. Yahoo News noted that it is often hidden inside cabinets, where it can be stored for several months.

It also comes in other forms, like paste and a dry substance, according to Yahoo News. Some even make tea from marijuana leaves to cure their headaches, or to have a good night sleep. Some use it as a cigar for their nausea and other cancer-related diseases.

Yahoo News added that this November, a national discussion started as the Supreme Court allowed four people to grow and use marijuana for personal reasons. Hence, other people, too, will now ask for legal permission to allow them to utilize cannabis for their respective purposes as well. However, the discourse over the legalization of marijuana in Mexico for "recreational or medical uses" is still ongoing.
