Justin Lin's "Star Trek Beyond" trailer goes online and to theaters on December 18, during the premiere of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

"Star Wars Episode VII" helmer J.J. Abrams appears to be hitting two birds with one stone as the official trailer for the long-running sci-fi franchise, which he produced, will be aired during the premiere of the highly anticipated continuation of the intergalactic saga.

Talking about the "Star Trek Beyond" trailer, Screen Rant noted how the trailer did not reveal much of the movie's storyline, but instead focused more on action scenes which included some that show the U.S.S. Enterprise torn apart.

Aside from being action-packed, these scenes also highlighted a new cast member Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), who portrays an extraterrestrial character.

Boutella's character appears to be joining forces with Chris Pine's Captain James Kirk after he gets separated from his crew when their ship crashes into a mysterious alien planet.

The Guardian also noticed how the first few seconds of the trailer featured the song "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys, which was one of the tunes in Kirk's childhood.

The song, says the outlet, appeared to mean more than that though, as the clip was edited to look like a "meta-commentary" on the track.

Also, the trailer appears to have revealed a portion of The Enterprise's adventure this time around, with a scene showing a swarm of vessels who appear to be an enemy that have never been featured in any "Star Trek" movies before.

The newly released clip also shows the team's new adversary, portrayed by Idris Elba.

Screen Rant says the trailer is Paramount Pictures' attempt "to paint the film as fun and fast-paced thrill ride, complete with some moments of levity to allow viewers to catch their breath."

Aside from that, the outlet noted how director Lin and Jung appeared to be aiming to expand their audience outside the die-hard "Star Trek" fanbase, with his "Fast & Furious"-style added to the mix.

"The Star Trek Beyond teaser does indeed have a decidedly "un-Star Trek-y" feel, selling the movie as more of a Fast & Furious-style sci-fi/action film that features Star Trek characters -- rather than a Star Trek movie that includes more action and comedy, a la Abrams' Star Trek and its sequel, "Star Trek Into Darkness,'" the outlet notes.

"Star Trek Beyond" takes off after The Enterprise crew decided to begin their quest to explore new worlds during the course of five years, and is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on July 22, 2016.
